Apple shelves Vision Pro overhaul to focus on AI glasses | TechCrunch
"Apple is sidelining plans to overhaul its Vision Pro VR glasses to focus on developing AI smart glasses that can compete with products from Meta, according to a new report from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Although the company had been developing a cheaper and lighter version of its Vision Pro, Apple is moving staff from that project to work on smart glasses."
"Bloomberg reports that the tech giant is developing at least two types of smart glasses. The first model, nicknamed N50, will pair with an iPhone and not have its own display. Apple reportedly plans to unveil these smart glasses as soon as next year and release them in 2027. The second version of smart glasses that the company is working on include a display. These glasses would compete with the Meta Ray-Ban Display, which were unveiled last month."
Apple has sidelined plans to overhaul the Vision Pro VR headset to concentrate on developing AI-powered smart glasses. Staff from a planned cheaper, lighter Vision Pro model were reassigned to the smart-glasses effort. Apple is developing at least two smart-glass models: an N50 that pairs with an iPhone and lacks its own display, and a display-equipped version intended to rival the Meta Ray-Ban Display. The N50 could be unveiled as soon as next year with a 2027 release, while the display model’s original 2028 target is being expedited. Apple currently trails Meta, which launched smart glasses in 2021.
