""Bureaucrats in Brussels" are unfairly challenging Apple's closed ecosystem and denying users the "magical, innovative experience" that makes the firm unique, Apple said."
""That's a good thing for consumers, because that means that you actually have choice over which device you're going to use, and you can get them to talk to one another, essentially," said Sebastien Pant of BEUC, an umbrella group of dozens of consumer advocacy organisations."
""It's important to try to tackle the kind of walled garden problem that we've had for years" and "try to provide consumers with more choice in the digital market," Pant added."
Apple contends that EU regulators are unfairly challenging its closed ecosystem and threatening the "magical, innovative experience" it provides. EU regulators and the Digital Markets Act target platform gatekeepers and require interoperability, including allowing third‑party headphones to work with iPhones, delivering notifications to non‑Apple smartwatches, and enabling other platforms to exchange content via AirDrop. The EU fined Apple €500m for alleged App Store anti‑competitive behaviour. Consumer groups such as BEUC say interoperability enhances consumer choice and breaks down walled gardens. Apple pushed back publicly while launching new AirPods Pro 3 with Live Translation features.
