Software CEO tells Catholic uni panel AI won't take jobs
"a very silly fear because human desires and human wants are infinite, and therefore, we always find new things for people to do."
"artificial intimacy is going to distract us from, and deter us from, the deep interpersonal bonds that are central to our happiness and our flourishing."
"We do not want people having an intimate relationship with it."
"The Church is in a privileged position to leverage its incredible patrimony, its reflection on the human person, [and] human flourishing."
AI will not create mass unemployment because human desires and wants are infinite, and new roles and tasks will continue to appear. AI is not actually intelligent, and substituting it for human judgment risks diminishing people's own intelligence and capacities. Artificial intimacy created by AI threatens to distract from and deter deep interpersonal bonds that underpin happiness and flourishing, so guardrails are necessary to protect minds and affections. Some Catholic AI projects intentionally avoid anthropomorphism to prevent intimate relationships. The Church can draw on its patrimony and reflection on the human person to guide ethical responses and human flourishing.
