Glenties, located in south west Donegal and surrounded by the Bluestack Mountains, is set to host a five-year initiative named FrielDays. This project commemorates the literary contributions of Brian Friel, who cherished the town and its landscapes. The opening of FrielDays coincides with the 10th anniversary of the playwright's death, emphasizing the significance of the location in relation to his work and highlighting Glenties as a focal point for honoring his legacy.
Cupped in the hands of the Bluestack Mountains, the heritage town of Glenties in south west Donegal is about to take a starring role in one of this island's most ambitious ever theatre projects.
It's fitting that the town, beloved of renowned playwright Brian Friel - who died 10 years ago this October - should take centre stage at the opening of FrielDays, a five-year project celebrating the work of a man who loved this town and its environs.
