"PRELUDIO follows the line begun with the Vestigio series, in which the artist Aryz - Octavi Arrizabalaga (2x cover artist) engages in a dialogue with some of the creators who have influenced him throughout his career. On this occasion, he presents a series of large-format oil paintings conceived as small visual dialogues with the great masters of painting. Each work is a tribute to the classical pictorial tradition and some of its fundamental themes."
"Particularly striking is the piece Los galeristas (2023-2024), a large-scale oil painting that evokes Slim Aarons's colour photography and his glamorous portraits of elites, reinterpreted here with subtle irony. Far from nostalgia or mimesis, Aryz appropriates the pictorial language in order to question it from within, opening a threshold towards yet unexplored territories. The title of the exhibition is not chosen at random: this prelude does not announce an ending, but a beginning."
PRELUDIO gathers large-format oil paintings conceived as visual dialogues with classical masters, paying tribute to pictorial tradition and its themes. Aryz shifted from murals to studio-based easel painting since 2019, reducing public commissions and exploring technical possibilities with greater freedom. The paintings function as pictorial collages where fragments of art history coexist with contemporary gestures, dissolving references from Van Eyck to Koons into a distinctive, critical language. Los galeristas (2023–2024) evokes Slim Aarons's colour photography and glamorous portraits of elites while introducing subtle irony. The prelude signals a beginning, using past pictorial languages to open unexplored artistic territories.
