"KENREX is a one man show, co-written by its star performer, Jack Holden, alongside the show's director, Ed Stambollouian. Holden, fresh from writing The Line of Beauty, which recently enjoyed a sell-out run at The Almeida, now bounces back onto stage himself, in a role portraying the entire town of Skidmore and resident bully, Ken Rex McElroy. Skidmore is a Missouri town too small and far away from anywhere to have a sheriff."
"Ably assisted by his lawyer, Richard McFadin, McElroy bullies all witnesses and gets off scot-free on over twenty occasions. Whether it's cattle rustling, shootings or statutory rape, McFadin can stall for time or twist the truth until his client walks free. But when McElroy shoots the grocer, Bo Bowenkamp, the town has finally had enough: residents get their pitch forks out to deliver justice where the law has failed."
"With energetic vigour and dark humour, Jack Holden breathes life into a plethora of wearied Missouri characters. Shifting accents and body postures faster than a ping pong rally, Holden switches from the terrifying swagger of McElroy one moment, through a gaggle of townsfolk the next. KENREX returns to The Other Palace Theatre in London after runs at Sheffield Theatres' Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse and Southwark Playhouse. The one-man show is co-written and performed by Jack Holden with direction by Ed Stambollouian. Holden portrays the entire town of Skidmore and its resident bully, Ken Rex McElroy, in a retro-American true-crime story. Skidmore lacks a sheriff and suffers McElroy's repeated crimes, evading conviction through his lawyer Richard McFadin. After McElroy shoots grocer Bo Bowenkamp, townspeople take justice into their own hands. Holden performs multiple characters with rapid accent and posture shifts, combining dark humour and energetic physicality.
