Why the Oregon Cultural Trust matters * Oregon ArtsWatch
"The Cultural Trust's tax credit, launched more than 20 years ago by the state legislature to shore up critical gaps in funding, is one of the most important ways for Oregonians support the arts and culture organizations they love - and you have until December 31st to take advantage of it on your 2025 taxes."
"Add up how much you donated during the calendar year to any of the almost 1,700 nonprofits on this list. Then make a gift to the Cultural Trust of the same amount by December 31 (up to $500 for individuals, or $1,000 for couples filing jointly). When you report that donation to the Cultural Trust, you'll get 100% of it back. And it's not just added to your other deductions: It's subtracted from your total state taxes owed."
Amy Lewin was hired last month to lead the Oregon Arts Commission and Oregon Cultural Trust. The Oregon Cultural Trust's license plates and Cultural Tax Credit connect everyday Oregonians to arts funding. The Cultural Tax Credit, created more than 20 years ago, allows donors to match donations to eligible nonprofits with a gift to the Trust by December 31, up to $500 for individuals or $1,000 for joint filers, and receive that amount back as a subtraction from state taxes owed. Nearly 1,700 nonprofits participate, and the Trust channels funds statewide through nonprofits, cultural organizations, and county coalitions to support local creative programming.
