Pointeworks dance company returns with female-centered 'Ballet Nights'
Briefly

Sophie Williams, artistic director of Pointeworks, founded the contemporary ballet organization to highlight women's voices in ballet. With sold-out shows at key venues like The Conrad and New York's Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theatre, Pointeworks is gaining prominence. The latest concerts feature an expanded cast from various ballet companies across the U.S. Despite the challenges faced by nonprofit dance companies, Williams' vision and commitment are garnering success, showcasing female choreographers and creating performance opportunities for dancers during the off-season.
"I thought New York was a very important stop to amplify the voices of female choreographers and to provide them a platform," Williams said.
"For this year's program, we've expanded the company and our cast now includes dancers from San Diego, Cincinnati Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, Ballet Arizona, Philadelphia Ballet and Atlanta Ballet."
Her intentions for Pointeworks are to highlight women's artistic voices and provide opportunities during the off-season for ballet artists, who typically seek side jobs during the summer.
Despite the fact that nonprofit dance companies are struggling to stay solvent due to a lack of government funding, our plan to expand and connect is succeeding.
