'I can sleep well now' - Weeks of uncertainty end in 2026 contract extension for British WorldTour rider on EF Education-EasyPost
"For 2026, I do not know where I will be or what I will be doing."
"It was such a shit situation to be in, and I feel like I've given EF so much. And I really wanted to get back on the bike and hit the ground running, but it was so difficult,"
"It was just a horrible situation to be in and I wouldn't wish it on any of my deepest darkest enemies, but hey, that's how it is."
James Shaw will continue his professional career into 2026 after extending his time with EF Education–EasyPost following weeks of uncertainty. He previously posted that he did not know where he would be in 2026. Shaw attributed the uncertainty to transfer-market turmoil, including the Intermarché–Lotto merger and Arkéa–B&B Hotels' collapse, which left many riders in limbo. Memberships to team apps were stopped, he returned to old coaches to regain training rhythm, and he booked trips to Calpe while training in Andorra. At 29 he remains motivated, noting that the former Continental pathway back to the WorldTour is now less available after British Conti teams folded at the end of 2024.
