Vittoria Bussi has once again secured the women's UCI Hour Record, achieving a distance of 50.455 kilometres in Aguascalientes, Mexico. A mathematician and professional cyclist, Bussi funded her record attempt through crowdfunding. She first set the record in 2018 and reclaimed it multiple times, most recently surpassing 50 km for the first time. Following her success, Bussi expressed gratitude for the support she's received, highlighting the record's personal significance and messaging about the value of time and the impact of sport on younger generations.
For me, this record has meant much more than just a sporting performance: it helped me through the darkest period in my life, so I am deeply and sincerely grateful to all the people who have supported me throughout these years, as an athlete but most importantly as a person.
I can say with a smile that I contributed to the history of the UCI Hour Record for women.
This record has always been really special to me as an athlete and as a person, and I hope I have transmitted to young generations and people that sport is not just an athletic performance but that athletes bring messages to the world.
The Hour taught me that one of the most important things in life is to understand the preciousness of time in every single instant of our life.
