Colorado Opens New Probe Into Hunter S. Thompson Death
"No More Games. No More Bombs. No More Walking. No More Fun. No More Swimming. 67. That is 17 years past 50. 17 more than I needed or wanted. Boring. I am always bitchy. No Fun for anybody. 67. You are getting Greedy. Act your old age. Relax This won't hurt, Thompson wrote in the note found after his death in February 2005. The message was titled, Football Season Is Over."
"Thompson was known for writing bestsellers like Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream and Hell's Angels. His first-person style of reporting became known as Gonzo journalism. Thompson has been portrayed on the big screen three times, twice by Johnny Depp and once by Bill Murray. Depp and Thompson were longtime friends, and the actor covered much of the cost of the author's funeral. The author was dealing with health issues at the time 67 years old. He died on his ranch in Woody Creek, Colorado."
Pitkin County has requested the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to reexamine Hunter S. Thompson's death following a request from his widow, Anita Thompson. The 2005 death was initially ruled a self-inflicted gunshot; officials say there is no new evidence of foul play. Thompson died at age 67 on his Woody Creek, Colorado ranch while dealing with health issues. His final letter, titled "Football Season Is Over," contained resigned lines that later appeared in Rolling Stone. Thompson wrote influential books and pioneered Gonzo journalism; he was portrayed in films and maintained friendships, including with Johnny Depp, who helped cover funeral expenses. No deadline has been set for the review.
