Can Marcelo Mayer return to Red Sox during playoffs? Alex Cora says 'he's pushing'
"I mean, I bet he's pushing,"
"I actually talked to him, he feels really good. I think he took dry swings yesterday for the first time,"
"He's been working hard throughout the process with [strength coach Kiyoshi Momose] and the trainers and that's a great first step."
"I'm doing everything I can to get back out there and hopefully play as soon as I can,"
Marcelo Mayer underwent wrist surgery in August and was initially expected to miss about three months. Mayer has resumed baseball activity, including playing catch, fielding ground balls, and taking dry swings. Red Sox manager Alex Cora expressed optimism about Mayer’s work in rehab and did not rule out a postseason return if the team advances. Mayer struggled offensively in his first big league season, hitting .228 with a .674 OPS, four home runs and 10 RBIs in 44 games, while showing strong defense. Roman Anthony is also progressing, moving from treadmill use to power walking. Both players attended the postseason-clinching celebration.
