"Less than two months ago, Saks offered Mr. Kwatra a significant retention bonus if he would stay at Saks,"
"When he turned that down as he was contemplating another offer from a global retailer, Saks launched these baseless and vindictive charges against Mr. Kwatra."
"looks forward to clearing his good name."
Suhail Kwatra, a 43-year-old longtime Saks Fifth Avenue personal shopper, faces a larceny charge for allegedly stealing approximately $429,400 through fraudulent returns and fund conversions. Authorities allege he refunded items clients purchased but never picked up, converted refund amounts into gift cards, and spent them on himself. The complaint also alleges mismanagement of promo cards, providing unpaid merchandise to clients, and abuse of a corporate card. Kwatra separated from Saks after an internal investigation and is scheduled for arraignment on Dec. 18. His attorney says he looks forward to clearing his name and contests the charges.
