"There are still (positions to be filled), especially those guys today. It's a good chance and hopefully one of those guys will grab it because we still need one or two in our lineup. It doesn't matter if it's Saturday (the B's last preseason game at the Garden) or Game 1. There are jobs up for grabs and hopefully someone will step up," said Sturm."
""He's been all right," said Sturm. "Can he be more effective offensively? I think so. I think there's another level there, offensively, that we have not seen. I've seen it before so that's why it's easy to say for me. These guys, it's not easy. They want to perform so badly, they sometimes hold their sticks tight. I get it. I've been there before. It's not easy, but after a while they should get comfortable.""
The Bruins travel to Washington for their second-to-last preseason game with several young prospects receiving final evaluations. Matt Poitras, Matej Blumel, Marat Khusnutdinov, John Beecher and Fabian Lysell are in the lineup as coach Marco Sturm finalizes the roster. The regular season opens October 8 against Washington, and one or two roster spots remain unsettled. Blumel comes off consecutive 30-goal AHL seasons, but Sturm expects a higher offensive level. Viktor Arvidsson returned to practice after illness, while Casey Mittelstadt continues to work separately on a lower-body injury.
