Six relievers covered 5.2 innings and allowed two runs that an offense weakened since the departure of Roman could not overcome. Early has no major-league road starts but opened his career with 10.1 shutout innings and 18 strikeouts across two outings. His swing-and-miss stuff was shown in Sacramento and Tampa, and he now faces the Yankees under Broadway lights.
