Lou Trivino returned to the free agent market after electing free agency following clearance of outright waivers. The Orioles designated him for assignment after a short major league run that included allowing six runs in less than an inning against the Yankees, followed by 2 1/3 scoreless innings against the A’s. After pitching 31 pitches, Baltimore replaced him with a fresh arm and used a DFA because Trivino had enough MLB service time to refuse a minor league assignment. Despite poor small-sample results in Baltimore, he pitched well in Triple-A for Philadelphia, striking out 36% of batters while walking 4 of 56. He relied on a 94-95 mph sinker and four-seam fastball, plus cutter, slider, and changeup. He previously returned to the Phillies after Tommy John surgery and posted a 3.97 ERA across 47 2/3 MLB innings last year.
