A Bay Ridge Facebook group created in 2022 matches residents who need snow shoveling with local helpers. Membership grew from about 100 to over 1,000, with daily join requests after a recent storm. The group primarily helps seniors and residents whose vehicles and driveways were buried, allowing families to arrange paid assistance by sharing phone numbers and scheduling times and prices. Prolonged sub-32-degree temperatures turned snow into ice, slowing melt and complicating travel. Alternate Side Parking is suspended through Feb. 8, and community-shoveling requests remain focused mainly on cars and driveways.
