NYC Parks and the Prospect Park Alliance celebrated the restoration of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza with an $8.9 million funding initiative. This marks the first significant renovation in almost half a century, focusing on reinforcing the structure, restoring statuary, and improving aesthetics with new lighting. The restoration has rejuvenated the landmark, underscoring the importance of maintaining historical monuments. The project was honored with the Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award for its excellence in preservation efforts, illustrating the commitment to both history and public enjoyment.
"...this Brooklyn icon has gotten a major facelift, restoring the beautiful statuary and artwork to its original glory," NYC Parks Commissioner Iris Rodriguez-Rosa said in a statement.
"The Soldiers' and Sailors' Memorial Arch at Grand Army Plaza is a Brooklyn icon and now once again a shining jewel of the borough," said Morgan Monaco, Prospect Park Alliance President and Park Administrator.
