On May 17, a tragic boating incident occurred when the Mexican Navy training ship Cuauhtémoc collided with the Brooklyn Bridge, resulting in two fatalities and injuries to over a dozen. The vessel, carrying 277 people, reportedly lost power and was blown off course due to wind currents, according to NYC Mayor Eric Adams. One victim was identified as 20-year-old cadet América Yamilet Sánchez, prompting condolences from officials. After the accident, the crew remained on board while city officials arranged their safe return to Mexico.
It was the current that took it under the bridge. It wasn't supposed to be headed in that direction.
They had some sort of mechanical issue, they lost power so without being able to use the rudder, they could not steer.
