On National Older Adult Health and Fitness Day, nearly 1,000 older adults gathered in New York City's Foley Square to promote the importance of active aging. Organized by the NYC Department for the Aging, the event included exercises aimed at enhancing flexibility and mobility. Mayor Eric Adams emphasized the need for older adults to remain healthy and active while enjoying themselves. Activities like Laughter Yoga fostered social connections and mental well-being. With 50 years of service, NYC Aging remains committed to providing opportunities for vital health and fitness programs for older adults community-wide.
It is vital that our older adults have every opportunity to stay healthy and active, but also, to have fun, said New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
This event is a celebration of movement, connection, and possibility, said NYC Aging Commissioner Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez.
