The planned vote on a significant redevelopment project for a 122-acre area of Brooklyn's industrial waterfront has been delayed for the fifth time. This postponement follows ongoing protests from local residents and political figures who oppose the plan initiated by Mayor Eric Adams. The city's Economic Development Corporation announced the task force responsible for the project would not vote as scheduled. Instead, members will seek additional input from nearby communities before determining a path forward for the Brooklyn Marine Terminal redevelopment.
The delay is a blow to the administration of Mayor Eric Adams, who announced the project next to Governor Kathy Hochul last spring, and a victory for the local politicians and residents who wanted to send the project back to the drawing board.
The vote, which was supposed to take place Thursday at 3:30 p.m., has been moved to a yet-to-be-scheduled date, to give the task force 'sufficient time to consult further with the various neighboring communities' to figure out 'a viable path forward.'
