Walmart's outgoing CEO on stepping down: 'I've never had a blank calendar' and it's 'kind of exciting'
"I've never had a blank calendar, and I have now seen what one looks like in a few months - and it's kind of exciting,"
"I don't know if I am young or I am old,"
Doug McMillon will step down as Walmart CEO early next year after more than ten years leading the company. He plans to take a break and expects his next activities to include a combination of business roles and philanthropy. McMillon has spent 40 years at Walmart and led more than 2 million employees during his tenure. His resignation is part of a broader wave of retail CEO departures, with 43 exits through October, a 34% increase year-over-year according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. Walmart's stock rose about 300% under McMillon and he expects continued growth.
