""948 DAYS WITHOUT A POST OFFICE.""
""We're a small town. We have no mayor, we have no city attorney. We're just, like, regular people trying to figure this out.""
""I think the sign was something to kind of keep the community engaged, and let them know, 'Hey, we haven't given up on this. We're still holding them accountable, we're still watching it and we're still working on this.'"},{"
""The Postal Service is proud to reopen a refreshed and brighter Post Office in the community of Bolinas. We are eager to deliver consistent and convenient service just in time for the holiday season.""
Bolinas, an unincorporated West Marin town of about 1,483 people with a median age of 62.7, lost its post office in 2023 due to a rent dispute between the landlord and the federal government. Residents were forced to drive a 40-mile round trip to Stinson Beach to pick up mail. A local resident maintained a vigil outside the closed post office and displayed a sign reading "948 DAYS WITHOUT A POST OFFICE" to keep the issue visible. The U.S. Postal Service reopened the refurbished Bolinas post office on September 29, restoring PO box delivery, retail hours Monday–Friday 8 am–4 pm, and Saturday mail pickup 10 am–noon.
