Lawmakers, local officials and labor leaders demand an audit and a State Bar inquiry into Los Angeles County's $4 billion sex-abuse settlement. An investigation found some plaintiffs said vendors paid them cash to sue the county and instructed them to fabricate claims. All cited plaintiffs had lawsuits filed by Downtown LA Law Group (DTLA), a personal-injury firm with more than 2,700 cases in the settlement. DTLA denied paying people to sue, said no representative was authorized to make payments, and hired a third-party neutral to determine whether any false claims were filed. County supervisors expressed outrage and called for investigations into alleged misconduct.
