"George Mauricio Salinas, 19, from San Diego, was fatally injured due to a drowning incident at an overcrowded pool party at the Alpha Delta Phi chapter on Prospect Street on Nov. 14, according to the complaint his parents filed Tuesday in state court. The complaint does not detail how Mauricio Salinas drowned during the party, which police estimated hundreds of people attended."
"Attorneys Daniel W. Dunbar and Brigitta S. Cymerint, of Los Angeles-based Panish Shea Ravipudi LLP, accused the chapter and national organization of negligence leading to Mauricio Salinas' wrongful death. They allege the fraternity hosted more people than the chapter house could handle, skipped pre-event inspections, and either had no safety coordinator, lifeguard or sober monitor at the party, or that the people serving in those capacities abandoned their responsibilities."
"The parents also alleged that the pool itself was overcrowded, just like the house, with people, pool items which impeded visibility, soap and/or other slippery substances in the pool that resulted in a slippery pool bottom that made remaining in the shallow end difficult, if not impossible, their attorneys wrote. Mauricio Salinas did not die immediately and endured pain and suffering, according to his parents' complaint."
George Mauricio Salinas, 19, drowned at an overcrowded Alpha Delta Phi fraternity pool party on Prospect Street on Nov. 14. His parents filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the chapter and the national organization, alleging negligence. Attorneys assert the chapter hosted more people than the house could handle, skipped pre-event inspections, and lacked active safety personnel or had safety monitors who abandoned duties. The complaint alleges the pool was overcrowded, contained items and slippery substances that impeded visibility and created a hazardous bottom, and that crowded conditions delayed discovery of Salinas’s drowning. He died nearly three days later at Highland Hospital.
