Saratoga State of the City focuses on preparation, connection and protection
"Usually at the State of the City, we'll list out all of the things that we did, Aftab said. But behind each of those items is a story, where people in our cityresidents, city staff, nonprofits, agenciesthey all came together to try and make things better for the place we all call home."
"My sincere hope is that for all of the new neighbors that will be coming to Saratoga, we'll be welcoming and kind to them just as we do with all of our existing neighbors today, Aftab said."
The State of the City event on Sept. 20 at Argonaut Elementary School focused on wildfire preparedness, infrastructure improvements, and economic vitality. The event coincided with a Safe Routes to School program offering a bicycle obstacle course, helmet fittings, bike repairs, safety education, and free helmets for students. Residents participated in Firewise USA and collaborated with the Santa Clara County FireSafe Council to improve wildfire and earthquake readiness. The city allocated $349,000 for vegetation management in parks and trails and encouraged private defensible space. Local and county officials attended and officials urged welcoming new neighbors as housing increases.
