
"Theft by false pretenses: A Saratoga resident reported that someone called them impersonating the victim's son and an attorney, and claimed the victim's son was involved in a legal matter and needed bail money. The victim went to the bank, withdrew $15,000, then returned home, all while staying on the phone with the suspect. A courier then went to the victim's residence in the 19000 block of De Havilland Court and collected an envelope containing the money."
"Check fraud: A Saratoga resident reported that someone obtained a check they mailed out, then altered, forged and cashed the check for a loss of about $18,500. Criminal threats, brandishing a weapon: At 3:41 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 19000 block of Oakhaven Drive. An investigation revealed an argument occurred, and the suspect brandished a knife and made criminal threats. The suspect fled the scene but was arrested the following day and booked into main jail."
Between Sept. 21 and Sept. 26, multiple incidents in Saratoga included organized retail theft, vehicle theft and recovery, identity theft, check fraud, theft by false pretenses, and criminal threats. On Sept. 21, three suspects stole about $600 of merchandise from Ace Hardware; the merchandise was recovered and one repeat offender was arrested and booked. A trailer reported stolen between Sept. 19 and Sept. 22 was recovered in San Jose but was missing tools. Scammers attempted to withdraw funds from an investment account and successfully induced a victim to withdraw $15,000 via impersonation and a courier. A mailed check was altered and cashed for about $18,500, and a separate identity-theft withdrawal totaled about $1,262. A suspect brandished a knife during an argument and was arrested the following day.
