Southern California-based maker's market finds its way to Los Gatos
"For those who love local businesses and community events, Muse Markets is coming to downtown Los Gatos on Oct. 11 Muse Markets was founded by a group of artists, entrepreneurs and organizers who want to elevate conscious consumption, according to their mission statement. Conscious consumption refers to making ethical and sustainable purchase decisions that have positive social, economic and environmental impacts. Similar events have been established in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara and Los Angeles."
"The national bookstore chain is set to open at 122 N. Santa Cruz Ave. The building was previously the site of a locally owned antiques business. The brand is also facing a federal lawsuit in a disability discrimination case. According to a press release by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, an employee asked for unpaid leave after her doctor diagnosed her with postpartum depression. Her request was allegedly denied and she was fired in the following months."
"The Muse Market in Los Gatos will feature over 40 independent brands, artists, designers and curators. Clothing, painters, candles, pastries and other artisan goods will be on sale at the event. The event is expected to take place in Town Plaza Park from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Pastaria & Market and Tasting House Los Gatos were honored with Golden Spoon distinctions at this year's Taste of Los Gatos on Sept. 6."

A federal lawsuit alleges the bookstore chain discriminated by denying postpartum-depression leave and later firing the employee; the case is filed in the Northern District of California.
