"I was kind of in the right place at the right time for this young lady,"
"The ocean is super scary."
"She wasn't coming back by herself,"
"There were so many waves rolling in,"
Strong tides and a pounding surf pulled a juvenile bodyboarder into a winter rip current at Manresa State Beach around 11:34 a.m. Saturday. A lifeguard on vehicle patrol spotted the struggling juvenile and immediately initiated a rescue without donning a wetsuit. A nearby surfer paddled out and kept the exhausted girl afloat after she was carried past the line of breaking waves. The surfer and lifeguard together brought the teenager back to shore, where first responders conducted a medical assessment. The girl required no additional care and was released. Waves were estimated at 4–6 feet and witnesses described powerful, repeated sets.
