CBC investigation finds some big grocers promoting imported food with Canadian branding | CBC News
Briefly

Stacey Dineen represents many Canadian shoppers who prefer local products amid rising nationalism. Despite support from grocery chains promoting Canadian goods, issues with misleading labels persist. A prominent example involved organic broccoli labeled as 'Product of Canada' while its tag indicated it was 'Produce of USA.' Frustrated by this inconsistency, Dineen expressed feeling misled due to grocery practices. According to the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, there were 97 complaints regarding country-of-origin claims, highlighting a significant issue. Accurate food signage is mandated by regulations, yet many grocers struggle to comply.
Dineen buys Canadian food whenever she can, but when she can't, she looks for imported products from outside the United States.
It makes me feel misled. At this point, I have run out of patience for it. It feels, at the very least, it's careless.
New data from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and a CBC News investigation suggests country-of-origin mislabeling by grocers is an ongoing problem.
In-store food signage must be accurate and not misleading.
