TTC, union look to strike deal as clock ticks on FIFA World Cup | CBC News

The TTC and CUPE 2 are seeking a new collective agreement for maintenance workers responsible for electrical, signal, and communications systems. No deal has been reached, and negotiations raise concerns about possible transit disruptions during the FIFA World Cup in June. The union represents about 700 workers and voted in April for a strike mandate after the previous agreement expired. Talks began in January, and the TTC CEO says the goal is a fair deal and continued service during FIFA, with contingency plans available. The TTC will be in a legal lockout position on Sunday, while the union will be in a legal strike position. The TTC is also preparing to deploy ambassadors to help visitors navigate transit.
