Ubisoft Fires Assassin's Creed Dev After Criticizing Studio Publicly
""Today, I was terminated by Ubisoft, effective immediately,""
""This was not my decision. I won't be discussing internal details or circumstances. I'm taking time to regroup and will share next steps when appropriate.""
""Sharing feedback or opinions respectfully does not lead to a dismissal. We have a clear Code of Conduct that outlines our shared expectations for working together safely and respectfully, which employees review and sign each year. When that is breached, our established procedures apply, including an escalation of measures depending on the nature, severity, and repetition of the breach.""
""disciplinary suspension.""
Ubisoft enacted a Tencent-funded restructuring that canceled titles including the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake and produced layoffs. Ubisoft implemented a policy requiring employees to return to local offices five days per week. Ubisoft Montreal level design lead David Michaud-Cromp publicly criticized the mandatory return-to-office decision on LinkedIn and was given a three-day unpaid "disciplinary suspension." Michaud-Cromp later confirmed his employment was terminated effective immediately and said he would take time to regroup. A Ubisoft spokesperson cited the company Code of Conduct and escalation procedures for breaches while stating respectful feedback does not cause dismissals.
