The Blanc Gallery, founded 15 years ago by chef Cliff Rome and Eileen Rhodes in Bronzeville, seeks to revive the neighborhood's artistic legacy through exhibitions that showcase influential Black artists. Celebrating its journey with the 'In Retrospect' show, Blanc has become an essential link between artists and larger institutions, emphasizing community involvement. Through collaborations with the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and others, the gallery nurtures talent and fosters connections within the art world while focusing on emerging artists and historically overlooked creatives.
"It really has been that space of experimentation and validation for artists who maybe were overlooked or ignored, and then these younger artists that you know will be in the canon."
"We wanted to bring the neighbourhood in, and we wanted to be a serious art gallery, embedded in community."
