David Ross is interested in returning to managing and says "It's an itch that hasn't gone away." He has been out of baseball for two years after being fired by Chicago following the 2023 season. Ross managed the Cubs for four seasons, winning an NL Central title in the shortened 2020 season and guiding the team to 83 wins in 2023, one game short of a Wild Card berth. Chicago hired Craig Counsell to a five-year, $40 million deal after Ross's departure. Ross had conversations about bench-coach positions but preferred a managerial role. Eight MLB managerial openings now exist.
