The Chicago White Sox announced a plan for Justin Ishbia to eventually buy a controlling stake in the team, backed by financial contributions in 2025 and 2026. Ishbia, currently a limited partner with the franchise, will inject capital aimed at reducing debt and enhancing operations. Under the agreement, current owner Jerry Reinsdorf retains decision-making power until he may sell controlling interest between 2029 and 2033, while Ishbia remains a significant figure in this transitional period adding to the ongoing narrative of sports ownership dynamics.
Under the agreement, White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf will have the option to sell controlling interest in the team to Ishbia from 2029-33. After the 2034 season, Ishbia can acquire the controlling interest.
Having the incredible opportunity to own the Chicago White Sox and be part of Major League Baseball for nearly 50 years has been a life-changing experience,” Reinsdorf said in a release by the club.
