Botanix Launches Federated Sidechain With 16 Members
Briefly

Botanix Labs has introduced Botanix, a federated sidechain on Bitcoin that is governed by a founding federation of 16 diverse node operators. This structure eliminates single entity control, emphasizing decentralization, resilience, and availability. The upcoming mainnet launch signifies a step toward a fully permissionless network, allowing anyone to run a Botanix node. The design aligns with Bitcoin's core principles by supporting secure transactions and EVM compatibility through the Spiderchain protocol, which facilitates the development of decentralized applications without the risks associated with wrapped assets.
Founded in 2023, Botanix Labs developed the Spiderchain protocol and initiated Botanix. With the network now independently operated, the lab focuses on research, developer tools, and ecosystem support.
Willem Schroë, CEO and co-founder of Botanix Labs, stated in a press release that, "The Bitcoin economy cannot be built on centralized rails. With this 16-node founding federation, we've stripped out centralized control and laid the groundwork for a fully permissionless future."
