"All the pieces matter. That's what model-building, detail-oriented Baltimore police detective Lester Freamon said in HBO's The Wire. It's true in criminal investigations, and perhaps even more salient for restaurants."
"We wanted to create a space that is different from other Peruvian restaurants, where we served dishes other restaurants don't serve. We wanted to make something unique where people will sit at a specific table and be able to focus or admire a certain part of the restaurant, Roca told Nosh earlier this year."
"This restaurant has everything, the best drinks and food, especially the ceviches, and the service is excellent. Highly recommended, you'll enjoy it and won't regret it, wrote one voter."
Lucuma opened in late July in Downtown Oakland, launched by partners Garrett Morris and Renzo Roca after a five-month redesign, menu development, and staff training. Voters praised friendly staff, delightful decor, eye-catching drinks, and a menu featuring atypical Peruvian dishes including signature anticuchos de corazon (beef hearts) and ceviches. Voter comments highlighted excellent service, reasonable prices, and a standout vibe that combines food, drinks, design, and customer service. The restaurant earned the 2025 Nosh Award for Best New Restaurant, with partners intentionally aiming for a unique Peruvian dining experience and distinctive seating-focused design elements.
