"Council's decision to consider the adoption of an Inclusionary Housing Ordinance is a long overdue step in a larger public process, and the Council looks forward to receiving input from residents, stakeholders, and the development community,"
Antioch is preparing a draft ordinance requiring land developers to dedicate a percentage of units as below-market-rate or affordable, to be codified in the Antioch Municipal Code. The City Council approved including a 15% inclusionary requirement for both rental and for-sale projects during a special meeting on Sept. 16. The ordinance would allow developers to include affordable units or contribute to affordable housing funds. Staff will draft the ordinance and present it to the Antioch Planning Commission, which will forward recommendations to the Antioch City Council. Public hearings will be scheduled at both stages for community input. The ordinance can support compliance with the Metropolitan Transportation Commission's Transit Oriented Communities. Mayor Ron Bernal emphasized considering tools to address housing needs across income levels.
