Wildfires have erupted in Greece, particularly affecting the suburb of Kryoneri near Athens, necessitating the evacuation of residents. The National Fire Service reported that the origin of the fire remains unknown and that 145 firefighters, various fire engines, and aircraft are deployed to combat the flames. Extreme temperatures of over 38 degrees Celsius, dry conditions, and winds contribute to the danger. Authorities are also managing multiple other blazes across the country, with a total of 52 wildfires reported in a short timeframe and requests for additional firefighting support.
Residents of Kryoneri received three text messages to leave for safe areas as a wildfire burned through their suburb, leading to attempts for evacuation.

Temperatures reaching or exceeding 38 degrees Celsius, combined with dry conditions and high winds, are fanning the flames and posing significant risks.
At least 335 firefighters and 19 planes are involved in combating multiple wildfires across Greece, including on the islands of Crete and Evia.
