Berkeley under heat advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday with temps set to reach high 80s
"The entire East Bay is under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service. While wind conditions won't put the bayshore at great risk for wildfire Tuesday, there is a danger that dry lightning could pose a hazard Wednesday, according to the NWS. The National Weather Service advised people to stay in the shade or, better yet, inside with air conditioning, drink plenty of water, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing if they have to go outside and limit strenuous activity wherever possible."
"Temperatures in the Berkeley Hills were forecast to hit 89 degrees in places, though parts of the city closer to the shoreline were expected to top out around 84 degrees, according to the National Weather service. A similar, if slightly more dramatic, pattern was forecast for Oakland, with highs around Port View Park pegged around 80 but highs in the hills peeking into the low 90s. The warmest time of day will be late morning through mid-afternoon, according to the advisory. After that, a weak wind will pick up off the water, and is expected to give some relief."
"The Bay Area Air District has also issued a spare the air alert for Tuesday warning of elevated concentrations of ozone, or smog, though the highest levels are expected to hover over the Santa Clara Valley. Temperatures will drop Wednesday, and Berkeley will have about a one-in-five chance of rain, according to the NWS. Meteorologist Dylan Flynn said that Wednesday's weather system is likely to dampen California's Central Coast but, by the time it hits the East Bay, there won't be much of any rain hitting the ground, so lightning, if it strikes, could hit dry land."
East Bay is under a heat advisory until 7 p.m. Tuesday with the warmest period from late morning through mid-afternoon and weak evening sea breezes offering some relief. Temperatures could reach the upper 80s in the Berkeley Hills and low 90s in Oakland hills while shoreline areas remain mid-80s to around 80 degrees. The Bay Area Air District issued a spare-the-air alert for elevated ozone, especially over Santa Clara Valley. Temperatures will drop Wednesday with about a 20% chance of rain in Berkeley, but dry lightning remains a hazard because the system may not produce much measurable rain. Stay hydrated, cool, and avoid strenuous outdoor activity.
