"That compared to 24.19% for a Moscow-leaning alliance of Soviet-nostalgic parties headed by former president Igor Dodon, according to results published on the election commission's website. My colleague Pjotr Sauer explained that Sandu's PAS party outperformed pre-election surveys, which had suggested it would remain the largest party but risk falling short of a majority potentially limiting her push to deliver on a pledge of EU membership within a decade."
Moldova's pro-western Action and Solidarity party (PAS) won a majority in the 101-seat parliament with 50.16% of the vote after more than 99.9% of ballots were counted. A Moscow-leaning alliance led by former president Igor Dodon received 24.19%. The PAS result outperformed pre-election surveys that had suggested PAS might fall short of a majority. President Maia Sandu has prioritized a pro-European path and accused Russia of large-scale interference aimed at reversing EU aspirations. EU leaders invested political capital in support, including a rare joint visit by Macron, Merz and Tusk. The victory preserves Moldova's pro-EU trajectory.
