"A review into the party's botched handling of the presidential campaign says Mr Gavin was asked about potential issues with a tenant on two occasions before his name was put to party representatives for a vote. The former GAA manager said he had no recollection of having any such issue with a tenant, but "nothing further was done" according to the review which has been circulated ahead of a special meeting of the parliamentary party."
"It states that Micheal Martin's Chief of Staff, Deirdre Gillane, was contacted by the Irish Independent journalist, Fionnán Sheahan, on September 5th who "states that there may be an issue with a tenant". The matter is put to Mr Gavin by the Fianna Fail general secretary, Sean Dorgan and Mr. Gavin "states that he is not aware of any such issue" according to the report."
Micheal Martin's Chief of Staff, Deirdre Gillane, received contact from Irish Independent journalist Fionnán Sheahan on 5 September stating there may be an issue with a tenant. Fianna Fail general secretary Sean Dorgan put the matter to Jim Gavin, who said he had no recollection of any such issue. A further query reached the Fianna Fail press office on 8 September referencing a particular issue arising with a tenant when he was a landlord; the matter was again put to Gavin. Dublin Southwest TD John Lahart texted Minister Jack Chambers about a potential issue involving a tenant who was a journalist and the return of a deposit. Gavin professed no recollection of a deposit not being returned or of having a journalist tenant, and no further action followed before his nomination.
