Protesters in Budapest demonstrate against 'Transparency Bill'
Briefly

On Friday morning, NGOs protested a controversial "transparency" bill in Hungary, arguing it would empower the government to label and punish organizations perceived to threaten national interests. The legislation, presented by lawmakers from Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party, could lead to cuts in funding for NGOs and heavy fines for those deemed to influence public life with foreign support. Experts and opposition parties have condemned the bill as an authoritarian move to silence dissent and protect the ruling party's interests against accountability and truth-seeking organizations.
This plan, this law of disarmament, is evil in every sense, deeply cynical and serves only one purpose: to starve, suffocate and cut off all resources to those who speak out or criticise the authorities.
The government is afraid of those who uncover the truth, afraid of those who offer solutions to real problems.
Of course, it's now a rubber stamp of some sort. If we don't deal with it, then they introduce it, then they do it, so it's a rubber stamp.
We are with you. We stay for you, in protest against the so-called transparency bill.
