Laporta's testimony in Negreira case hearing - 'We paid for reports, not to favour Barcelona' | Barca Universal
"We paid for reports, not to favour Barça in any way. Barça, at that time, was admired around the world. It was an example and a benchmark in football. We didn't need any favours. In fact, I don't know Negreira or anyone in his circle. I've never had any relationship with them. I inherited these payments, I asked the sports management and they told us to go ahead with the reports."
"We don't have reports from the first term because they are destroyed every five years."
Investigating authorities heard testimony from Joan Laporta, Ernesto Valverde and Luis Enrique regarding payments to former CTA vice president Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Laporta defended the payments as fees for technical reports and insisted they were not intended to influence refereeing decisions. Laporta denied any personal relationship with Negreira and stated that the payments predated his presidency and were continued on advice of sports management. Laporta said older reports are unavailable because club protocol destroys records every five years. He added that the report costs were not large enough to require formal board approval.
