"Birgitte Raben worked as a buyer for legendary New York/Copenhagen store Flying A - purveyors of cutting-edge designer and vintage clothes - before she considered starting her own label. "It was so fun, much more creative than nowadays," she explains, eyebrows raised, over kombucha served in a huge wine glass outside a chic Copenhagen restaurant. "I feel like I grew up in the industry at its very best.""
"A pit stop in Australia led to Bali ("They always go to Bali"), and she stayed. "Indonesian people are some of the most creative people in the world, the colour techniques, the things they could do, that spoke to me as being very interesting." Their craft, combined with Raben's years of sourcing vintage across the USA and deep understanding of commerce, led to the birth of Rabens Saloner."
Birgitte Raben founded Rabens Saloner in 2007 and splits her time between Denmark and Indonesia, collaborating with a team of Balinese artisans. Raben previously worked as a buyer for Flying A, sourcing designer and vintage clothes across the USA, which informed her taste and commerce knowledge. The brand mixes relaxed Danish tailoring and shift dresses with vibrant, hand-dyed colours developed in a Bali colour house and mixed by a dedicated colour master. The label emphasizes unique tie-dye prints and colour techniques. Rabens Saloner pieces are available through the brand and stockists such as KJ's Laundry.
