Bend It Like Beckham sequel in the works, director tells BBC
Briefly

A sequel to 'Bend It Like Beckham' is confirmed for release in 2027, marking the film’s 25th anniversary and coinciding with the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil. Director Gurinder Chadha expressed a desire to investigate the characters further due to the ongoing evolution of women's football. Despite progress, Chadha noted that some still do not view women’s football seriously. She hopes to reunite the original cast and involve current members of the England squad in the project. The original film inspired many young girls to pursue football and broke social stereotypes.
England's Lionesses are preparing to face world champions Spain in Sunday's Euro 2025 final. The 2002 film, which starred Keira Knightley and Parminder Nagra, is credited with inspiring a generation of women to take up football.
Gurinder Chadha has earmarked 2027 for the next instalment, to mark both the film's 25th anniversary and the Fifa Women's World Cup in Brazil. She said she was still unsure what form the sequel might take, but suggested it could either be another film or a television series.
