Paradise Dynasty Is Coming for the Mall Dumpling Cult
"While first-timers may be tempted by the rainbow-tinted soup dumpling sampler with flavors like black truffle, pork, cheese, and kimchi, it's better to just settle on two 10-piece trays of single flavors. The original pork is always a safe pick, juicy and thin-skinned. My favorite, the spicy Sichuan, has a rich, oily inside punctuated by a brief but intense spice."
"Crispy, layered radish pastries that look like cute golden-brown bugs come piping hot. After the soup dumplings, these are the most memorable dish on the table. Pan-fried noodles with pork or chicken gain their proper char from a skilled wok hand, with shredded cabbage and julienned wood ear mushrooms adding a nice crunch. Fried rice topped with a fried pork chop comes right out of the Din Tai Fung canon, and it's excellent."
Paradise Dynasty opened at the Americana at Brand in the former Din Tai Fung space, expanding a Singapore-based group that targets mall crowds. Menu highlights include soup dumplings best ordered as single-flavor 10-piece trays: the original pork is juicy with thin skins, and the spicy Sichuan offers a rich, oily filling with intense heat. Crispy layered radish pastries arrive piping hot and stand out after the dumplings. Pan-fried noodles gain proper char from a skilled wok hand, with cabbage and wood ear mushrooms for crunch. Fried rice topped with a fried pork chop is meaty and crowd-pleasing. Interiors are clean, minimal, and casual. Parking at the Americana is very overpriced; Glendale Galleria offers free parking.
