French taxi drivers are set to intensify protests against the government over new regulations impacting patient transportation payments. The taxi sector, feeling threatened by ride-hailing services like Uber and Bolt, is protesting for the withdrawal of new rules that they believe will cut their income significantly. Taxi representatives are meeting with the transport ministry and Prime Minister Francois Bayrou to negotiate. If unresolved, drivers plan to block access to major sites including Paris airports and the French Open, signaling serious unrest.
"We are calling for the immediate withdrawal of this agreement and for a return to the negotiating table," Emmanuelle Cordier, president of the National Taxi Federation (FNDT), told France Info radio.
"From Monday, Paris international airports, Charles de Gaulle and Orly, will be blocked by taxis, and we will also take care of Roland Garros," said Cordier.
