According to Google's VP of product for Chrome Mike Torres, this is the "biggest upgrade to Chrome in its history," provided you consider transforming Chrome into yet another AI browser by adding a Gemini button to it to be an upgrade."

Chrome is being transformed to integrate Gemini AI widely across the browser. The rollout begins for macOS and Windows users in the US with Chrome language set to English. New capabilities include AI-simplified interpretations of webpages, multi-tab summarization in a single response, the ability to search web history and content from Google apps, and other AI browser features. The omnibox will include an AI Mode that filters entire result pages through Gemini's prioritization rather than standard search listings. A visible AI button will let users enter AI Mode directly. The change may further reduce publisher referral traffic as more queries bypass traditional search results.
