Daniel Rotar experienced a Samsung Galaxy Ring battery swelling during travel, tightening around his finger and causing his finger to swell. Airline crew and Rotar attempted removal with soap and water, which worsened battery swelling. Airport staff denied boarding and sent him to the emergency room. Medical staff iced his hand and used medical-grade lubricant to remove the ring; the finger showed chafing at the injury site. Rotar shared photos on X and said he will not wear a smart ring again. Other users reported battery failures and at least one swelling battery on Reddit, and the brand offered free replacement batteries. Battery swelling presents risks similar to swollen laptop and phone batteries, which can precede combustion.
